About Home Business Success
Today, all around the globe, people are making their livings from their home business. A lot of us have used, or know someone who has used, a student from another country to fulfill some outsourcing need such as web design or marketing. Sites such as Fiverr.com are full of people offering their services and many of them are foreign students who have come to realize the potential the new internet world market has created. And unlike decades ago where only those who were formally trained and verifiably skilled could compete, many of these foreign students have learned what they know from the internet, teaching themselves a new trade and making a nice living from their apartment on their home computer. It’s no longer mere outsourcing, this is the new face of internet business.
The slumping economy has also further aided the home business owner as more and more consumers are shopping online where they know competition is stiff and prices low. In an October 2011 press release by MarketLive, Inc., the leading provider of enterprise-class eCommerce technology and services, they released the results of their 3rd Annual Holiday Shopping Survey and reported that saving money jumped to the top of the list of reasons shoppers cited for buying gifts online, rising to 79% this year from 72% a year ago; talk about opportunity.
In a 2010 BusinessWeek article titled Home-Based Businesses Increasing, the significant increase in home businesses was discussed. They wrote that the number of self-employed who work exclusively from home increased from 3.47 million in 1999 to 4.34 million in 2005 (the latest available from the Census); that number has almost certainly increased exponentially since 2005 census data.
In another BusinessWeek article titled The Rise of the Homepreneur, it was stated that new research shows the economic importance of home-based businesses: they account for more than half of all U.S. businesses and employ more people than venture-backed companies. Think about that, what it means to you as someone who has or wants to start their own home business.
What this means is that this isn’t 1999; anyone with the right dedication and commitment to success can find success working from their own home business and enjoy the benefits that a home business offers. And there hasn’t been a better time to start than right now. As the economy continues to dive and stress corporate budgets and formal businesses, more and more work is being given to individuals and home businesses. From basic data entry to web development and marketing, home business owners are thriving.
What that means to you and I is that there’s never been a better opportunity or time to get off the fence and pursue the dream of a home business. According to Forbes, almost two thirds of the worlds billionaires made their money from scratch, relying only on pure determination and commitment. But of course that doesn’t mean anyone can turn on their computer and start an automatic cash flow. It takes hard work and time. Further, two of the main reasons that a home business fails is that the owner was either not prepared for the long and often rough journey (poor or no business plan) or they didn’t have the mental stamina to last through to success. Hard times will come for most so prepare for the long haul and expect it. If success comes sooner, great, but if not you won’t be tempted to fold.
Finding a credible and fresh source of motivation and support from like-minded business owners must be an essential part of your strategy; you simply can’t go it alone and play against the odds. You also have to treat your home business like a real business, because it is a real business. That means you need to develop a business plan and properly set goals and align yourself and your time to achieving them. While there is plenty to learn about running a home business, now is the time to do it. The abundance of internet based opportunities is staggering and sharp minded people are making a lot of money while others think about it
